If your family loves cheeseburgers but you’re looking for something a little different than the usual burger night, this Cheeseburger Stuffed French Bread is the perfect solution. It’s loaded with seasoned ground beef, melty cheddar cheese, tangy pickles, and all your favorite burger flavors tucked inside a crispy loaf of French bread.

This recipe is one of my favorite weeknight dinners because it’s incredibly simple, feeds a crowd, and uses ingredients that are easy to find at Aldi or Walmart. Plus, it’s ready in about 30 minutes, making it perfect for those busy evenings when everyone is hungry and you don’t want to spend hours in the kitchen.

The best part? Slice it up and everyone gets their own cheesy, handheld piece. It’s fun, filling, and always disappears fast at my house.

Why You’ll Love This Recipe

  • Budget-friendly
  • Ready in about 30 minutes
  • Family-friendly
  • Easy to customize
  • Perfect for picky eaters
  • Great for game day or parties
  • Uses simple grocery store ingredients

Ingredients

  • 1 loaf French bread
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • ½ cup diced dill pickles
  • 2 tablespoons ketchup
  • 1 tablespoon yellow mustard
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 2 tablespoons butter, melted
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 tablespoon sesame seeds (optional)

Optional Toppings

  • Shredded lettuce
  • Diced tomatoes
  • Bacon bits
  • Burger sauce
  • Jalapeños

Instructions

Step 1

Preheat oven to 375°F.

Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or lightly grease it.

Step 2

Brown the ground beef and diced onion in a large skillet over medium heat until the beef is cooked through.

Drain any excess grease.

Stir in:

  • Ketchup
  • Mustard
  • Worcestershire sauce
  • Salt and pepper

Cook for another 2–3 minutes.

Step 3

Slice the French bread in half lengthwise.

Carefully hollow out some of the soft bread from the center, leaving about a ½-inch border around the edges.

Brush the inside of the bread with melted butter mixed with the garlic powder.

Step 4

Evenly spread the ground beef mixture inside both halves of the bread.

Top with diced pickles, then sprinkle generously with shredded cheddar cheese.

Step 5

Bake for 12–15 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly and the bread is lightly toasted.

If you’d like a little extra color on the cheese, broil for 1–2 minutes at the end. Keep a close eye on it so it doesn’t burn.

Step 6

Sprinkle with sesame seeds if using.

Slice into pieces and serve warm with your favorite burger toppings or dipping sauces.

Budget-Friendly Tips

French bread is one of my favorite ways to stretch a pound of ground beef into a meal that feeds the whole family. Pair it with oven fries, chips, fresh fruit, or a simple salad for an inexpensive dinner that feels like a treat.

Watch for markdown bakery bread at your grocery store it tastes just as good in this recipe and can save you a few dollars.

Make It Kid-Friendly

If your kids aren’t fans of pickles or onions, simply leave them out of part of the loaf before baking.

Set out lettuce, tomatoes, pickles, and sauces on the table so everyone can customize their own slice just like a cheeseburger.

Storage

Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.

Reheating

Reheat slices in a 350°F oven for 8–10 minutes or in the air fryer for 3–4 minutes to keep the bread crispy.

The microwave works too, but the bread will be softer.
